One
way that we can make a difference in the world to help others is to undertake
a practice of voluntary fasting, and to use the money saved from that fasting
to contribute to those many worthy organizations that are engaged in combating
hunger and poverty in our own countries, and around the world. This is a
practice that any person, regardless of income, can practice for the benefit
of others.
Why
fast? Why not just donate money without missing a meal?
There
is certainly nothing wrong with just donating money itself! After all,
to the person receiving its aid, they will just be happy to eat at all!
However,
the goals of this website are to promote not just generosity, but that sort of
generosity which inspires the "heart" within us and within others, that sort of generosity which helps to heal
not just the stomach, but the "heart" as well! When someone
undertakes the practice of voluntarily fasting for the benefit of others, it
develops in both the giver and receiver deeper levels and bonds of compassion
and understanding.
As well as serving to aid and inspire others, you find yourself being inspired
and uplifted as well! By voluntarily undertaking such an action, the
positive forces within yourself are encouraged and inspired to seeking ever
greater expression!
And,
of course, your efforts are going towards eliminating one of the most
fundamental causes of human suffering - lack of food and clean water!
Recent
estimates from the United Nations are that about 1 in every 7 persons living
on the earth today is in a state of serious, life-threatening hunger. By
fasting 1 day out of 7, and donating the savings, you can make a difference in the
life of
someone else! Think about it - if we all joined together, we could end
world hunger in our time! Or, if due to medical conditions, a one day
fast would be health threatening, then it should still be possible to give up
just one small thing each day, and the savings for the whole week could then
be used for your donation.
If
you are interested in finding out more information about safely conducting a
fast please consult with your physician, or search for
the word "fasting" to find the many excellent articles on it that
are available on the internet. In most cases, barring health concerns,
many people will have no difficulties at all with a 24hr. fast where only
water and/or juice is taken.
Think
of it - if every healthy person in the world would give up just one meal a
week, and donate that money to one of many worthy relief agencies, we could
end world hunger - permanently! Won't you help to make hunger a word
that is found only in dictionaries, and only in reference to the past?
Consider opening your heart to undertake this action, and helping to eradicate
forever the needless tragedy of any person in this world going hungry!

find more information about relief organizations working toward ending world
hunger, a good place to start can be found at this website:

Please
carefully research the relief organization(s) that you choose to
sponsor! It is an unfortunate reality that there are some
"wolves in sheep's clothing" among the many organizations that are
striving for the betterment of humanity. Choose wisely!
Starting
Jan. 1st, 2007, through
