Baby & Bridal Showers / Births
The passing on of a loved one can be a sad event. But one way to help everyone keep in mind the beauty of their life while they were with us in the body is to make the beautiful music of the harp a part of the funeral service and/or burial.
When Matthew first began playing the harp, it was as a volunteer at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska for patients who were near to death. So it was natural that some of first places he played in public were at funerals for some of the patients he had been visiting with the harp.
If you are interested in making the music of the harp available at a service for your loved one, you can contact Matthew by e-mailing him at:
There is never any fee requested for playing at funerals, so that it is clearly understood that the priority is to be there in your time of need. It is my opinion that funerals should not be a time for making money. Any "love offerings" or donations received from playing at funerals are saved up and given to charity at the end of each year.
BABY & BRIDAL SHOWERS / BIRTHS
As mentioned elsewhere in this website, Matthew first began playing the harp as a volunteer for patients who were near to death at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. Of course, it wasn't long before patients in the rooms nearby, who would go on to recuperate, would also ask him to play for them as well! If you have a family member or loved one who is in a hospital, and you think it would lift their spirits to have the music of the harp played live in their room, you can contact Matthew at:
As Matthew's original motivation for learning to play the harp was to play for patients without charge, no fee is ever requested (or accepted) for playing for a patient.
The wonderful music of the harp can add that special touch to a wide variety of events and occasions! Besides the events mentioned above, Matthew has played for a number of special events around town. To give you some ideas to consider, the following are some of the events at which Matthew has played:
- romantic dinner surprises on Valentine's Day - Christmas parties - art exhibitions and dedications - new construction dedications - background music at banquets and dinners - conferences and workshops - 50th wedding anniversaries - Wedding Shows - church services - graduations - auxiliary luncheons
If you think the music of the harp would be perfect for your next event, you can e-mail Matthew Wollam-Berens at:
( fees generally around $75 / hr. depending on the type of event )
Matthew enjoys being able to donate his time to charities and philanthropic organizations wherever possible. His main focus has been to play as a volunteer for patients and their families at such places as the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, and for patients in the care of Hospice of Nebraska. He feels fortunate to be able to donate the profits from all CD's sold to such programs as "Angel Dogs" ( volunteers who visit patients with their dogs) and to the Friendship Home (serving battered women and their children).
As time allows, he is always glad to consider requests for playing at special events as a volunteer for local charitable organizations, such as at volunteer appreciation dinners at fund-raising events, and at dedication ceremonies. Such organizations he has played for include Lincoln's Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Friendship Home, Nebraska Council To Prevent Drug and Alcohol Abuse, the Red Cross, City Mission, and others.
